Historical Romance readers rejoice a new author to follow... Ever find a diamond in the rough? What I found wasn't a diamond and is wasn't rough. It was book that seems to have not been discovered. I found this author named Angie Troubador She has a three books out and all seem to be within a year or so. My heart went pit-a patter course when I found she had written an American historical romance ( ok- no secret here my Favorite genre) I was doubly rewarded for this one was a freebie. Angie Troubador does a BANG up job. Lady Eloise and Fur Trader I believe is her first one. It has every element a good historical romance should have and than some. She has a talent with description. My reader screen only gave me the first few words of her first paragraph. She did so well I finished it, in my mind, before I turned the page. In two sentences I knew I would be in love with the hero. Turning the pages the tale just got better and better. Ms. Troubador also has way to carry you along as baits and teases the reader making us squirm in our chair rooting for the hero and heroine to discover – what all true Romance stories are about. She accomplishes this tastefully with style and grace. I can only wish this author the best and may many readers discover her books. Here's her bio: Angie Troubador was raised on a farm in rural Michigan. She received her Bachelor's degree in history and relocated with her husband to the city. A history buff, she spends her free time exploring forts, battlefields, and ghost towns. She loves imaging how settlers lived and loved. In her youth, she was often accused of having a wild imagination and wandering mind. In writing, she found an outlet for her creativity. If you have visited my site before than you know than I'm a genre snob when it comes to choosing which books to read. Since, I also am one of Fabulosity Blog hostesses the privilege gives me an opportunity not only to learn about authors, but to share their great books. So, when I featured “STRUGGES OF THE WOMEN FOLK” by T.M Brown I for some reason was immediately drawn to it. Here's why... The review: Ms. Brown has the ability in just a few opening lines transport you to another era. A time that sadly isn't too far back in our history. Most of us usually live a so called normal life, a life with a balance of good times and those not so good times. Other people seem to live almost charmed lives. T. M Brown's heroine sadly is one of those who has tragedy and despair fill her life. That said, if you like when the author has a way with words and her style captures you page after page you will enjoy the time spent reading “Struggles of the Women Folk.” I know I did. I don't believe in spoilers so I'll just say. In my mind's eye... I shared the fear Georgie felt in the school house... I walked down the dirt road with Georgie and her mother. I grieved with her at the betrayal of those she trusted... Best of all, I thought about this story long after I finished reading it. AND... isn't that the best reason to read any book. Well done, T.M. Brown! T.M. Brown is an Internationally recognized story-teller with a past that provides lots of material to write from! *1st book, "A Life Not My Own", kicks down the secret door that Tina had worked so hard to lock away her insecurities, heartache and fears. *5 STAR rated Just Between Us - Inspiring Stories by Women. TM's short story is a continuation of "A Life Not My Own", providing just a tad more about her life as a young adult (not captured in my first book). Expect the unexpected... *"Struggles of the Women Folk", is based on fictional characters with a storyline created from stories that her grandmother shared with her as a child. *Military service: 7 years - Enlisted *Formal Education *Master of Science Degree in System Engineering - Regis University - Denver, Colorado *Undergraduate Degree in Psychology - University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Visit http://author-tmbrown.com/ and [email protected] Get it now on: AMAZON SMASHWORDS BARNES AND NOBLE Read My original post here.. http://lisaday.weebly.com/now-blogging/tmbrown-reveals-new-cover-struggles-of-the-women-folk Learn about being part the Fabulosity blog tour as a writer or blog here. http://www.fabulosityreads.com/ Thank you for visiting. Lisa Day Lisa Day... Through Lisa's Eyes... A review of:Lisa Day begged and Jacquie relented and sent me her book.. Sleight of Hearts by Jacquie Rogers I just finished Ms. Rogers' new book. What's not to like about it, if you're a fan of the Historical Western Romance genre. (Even if you're not.) The search is on for the missing Patrick. Our hero and heroine travel between cities as time begins to run out. The mode of transportation; the railroad of course. It is Silverton, Colorado June 13, 1883. Trust me, you'll shake out your clothes and want to wash the soot from your hair as her vivid descriptions make you think you're riding along. . Let Ms. Rogers takes you on this journey. I promise you'll enjoy the slow build as the characters come alive and you begin to root for your favorites. She has thrown in a twist or two to keep you surprised. Who doesn't like that. There is only one warning... Spoiler Alert...When your finished reading “Sleight of Hearts” don't believe you know how to play poker and gamble your money away. Leave that to the professionals like Burke and Patrick. Here's where to purchase: http://www.amazon.com/Sleight-High-Stakes-Heroes-Jacquie-Rogers-ebook/dp/B00FMZYP5Y Here's where you can learn about Ms. Rogers other books: http://www.jacquierogers.com/index.html Happy reading, Lisa Day Lisa Day... Through Lisa's Eyes... A review of:Women of the Way: Embracing to Camino Embracing the 'What'? I won a copy in a drawing. Which was a good thing. It makes you spread yourself imposed limits to read something different. That said I think I understand Jane's title better.. The Camino is a journey to feed the soul. If you ever wanted to do something to discover more about yourself and weren't sure how you go about accomplishing that goal. This book is for you. This was Jane's reason “Many of my friends are puzzled why I, a nonbeliever, want to go on a pilgrimage. This long journey for me is not for religious devotion, but for introspection and adventure, providing me with an opportunity to discover languages, customs, and ways of life different from my heritage, as is the case for most people.” If a journey like this is on your bucket list (It might be after you read this) then read this book. Ms. Blanchard tells you what, how, why, and when in such a way when you finish the book; envy will set in. Beware, it wasn't all fun and games for Jane, her husband, and those who crossed their trail along the way, but I don't believe in spoilers. See why a “Women’s Discovery Skirt" that comes to just above her knees and provides a UPF 50+ rating and is quick to dry is an important item. Do enjoy getting to know this fascinating lady. I did. Here's where to learn more about Jane: Book web site: http://womenoftheway2011.com blog: http://janevblanchard.com FB: http://www.facebook.com/womenoftheway Twitter: http://twitter.com/womenoftheway To purchase the book: http://janevblanchard.com/order-page/ Lisa Day... Through Lisa's Eyes... A review of:Through Lisa's Eye looks at Kit Morgan's book, and the first thing I thought of when I saw the cover of His Prairie Princess was its simplicity followed immediately by its purity. His Prairie Princess manages to fulfill both expectations admirably. Ms. Kit Morgan starts us right in the middle of Sadie Jones' dilemma tied to a chair. One she recklessly brought upon herself being a strong willed female. Sadie needs a hero and fortunately for her there's one hiding under the cabin's porch. Harrison Cooke our hero does come to the rescue. Sadie, however is on a mission and the tiny town of Clear Creek doesn't seem to be able to prevent Sadie from finding herself in need of a hero again. There is no stopping Harrison from coming to his princess's rescue even if he feels less than adequate to reach out and claim her. Here's some good advice from the town's Doctor on courting: Doc saw the determined gleam in his eye. “That’s it boy! Go get her! Don’t let those fancy manners you MA beat into you spoil a good thing! She’ll be more of a mind to let you court her if she knows how you feel!” “Court her? What happened to staking a claim?” “All women want to be courted at least a week before they get married out here.” A week might be right in courting, but I wouldn't wait that long before you try His Prairie Princess by Kit Morgan. An entertaining story that will keep your interest without offending anyone. Start here: http://www.amazon.com/His-Prairie-Princess-Brides-ebook/dp/B00BO3R6K4/ref=la_B00BQ62WY4_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1379788288&sr=1-1 And then there are three (oops now4) more waiting for you to enjoy in the series. Little information about Kit Morgan: Kit Morgan, aka Geralyn Beauchamp, was written for fun all of her life. When writing as Geralyn Beauchamp, her books are epic, adventurous, romantic fantasy at its best. When writing as Kit Morgan they are whimsical, fun, inspirational sweet stories that depict a strong sense of family and community. 'His Prairie Princess' is the first of the Prairie Brides books and the first in the series of a long line of stories about Clear Creek, Oregon. One of the whackiest little towns in the old west! Get to know the townsfolk in Clear Creek and come sit a spell! If you like Kit Morgan's books then you might also like the Time Master Book series written under Geralyn Beauchamp and can be found on amazon. See more here: http://authorkitmorgan.blogspot.com/ Thanks for passing by Through Lisa's Eyes and dilly dallaling a spell. I love the Historical Romances. My favorites are the American and Western Frontier. That's why I dabble in it and why so much of what I share is in the genre. Y'all have a great day and please share the site with a cowgirl, cowboy, bandit, or any gambler that crosses your way.. BECOMING BERTHA: Not another advice book. Well sort of, but I bet you'll read this one all the way to the end and then frown when there are no more pages. I know I did. Self-reflection of our own lives can be at times a hard pill to swallow. Especially, if you try to take it while laughing at Bertha's antics. Jane Carroll can stand tall for she has mastered the putting all the 'maybes' aside. So, I thought until “Becoming Bertha” book 2 was released. Reading this BECOMING BERTHA from Jane Carroll she lets us see more of herself and through Bertha's eyes. Where book one gave us Bertha through Ms. Jane's eye. Both directions give the reader the information to revisit and ponder the why and way we all do things. I gave up black stockings after “Bertha-Size Your Life.” Now, after Becoming Bertha and the chapter 'The truth about casseroles' my friends and I eat dinner out, when we get together. Why chance it? A fun read with a hint of poignancy. Cynthia Dendy artwork brings Bertha to life...5 stars for her too. Here's where to get your own copy... http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Bertha-ebook/dp/B00DT7V8NO And if your hooked here's where to get a dose or two more of Jane ..errr I mean Bertha. When I setup this page for reviews I never dreamed I'd be reading such a wide smorgasbord of genes. OK, I could see YA and maybe young YA.. BUT, I hold the line on books that you read to those sitting on your knee... WELL, I did until..... Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat by Greta Burroughs Every one was praising Greta's books. So, I asked and.. Greta graciously sent me a copy of one of her stories. She did good. For, I enjoy my Cats and Dogs. Her story reminded me of the days long gone when I was read tales to as a child. The tales reminded me of the times I read books to my own children, years ago. And on the next visit from the grandchildren a new memory will be formed. The drawings inside the book are enchanting. Each individual story exciting for all children. Even the inner child that lingers deep inside of you and me. Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat is a fun read to have read to you or to read yourself. But, be warned Greta Burroughs is sneaky. At the end of each unique episode is a section with three questions. So expertly, done to make the conversion with the child fortunate enough to be by your side to continue by helping them learn from Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat’s adventures. So, go get yourself a copy to share with someone on your knee, or to lose yourself in a memory. You won’t be disappointed. Oh, to be young again snugged down in my bed as Dad read me a story. I think Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat would have given 'The Pokey Little Puppy' a run for it. Through the Eyes of Lisa Day. Ms. Brenda Perlin’s book the ‟Home Wrecker I” has under gone a whole new look inside and out. I won a free copy in a give away on release day. Writing can be therapeutic when under stress. I found ‟Home Wrecker” to be a combination of therapy and a strong desire to share her story. Brenda’s writing is crisp and clear. With her no-holds-barred approach you will feel some of the emotional turmoil as it entered her life, and you'll recognize some of it as your own. If you have a history of how life’s deals with people, under your belt, you will appreciate the truth of those familiar words, ‘Never say never.” I know I did, and she did too. There are two reasons to get yourself a copy. One to understand just how hard it is for some people to understand why it’s an impossible image as they strive to be the best they can be. The second is to learn through other people’s struggles to give love and be loved in return is the best it will get for any of us. If ‘home is where the heart is’ then I do believe that Ms. Perlin has found hers. And since this Is Home Wrecker I...We can look forward for more from Brenda. Purchase links http://www.amazon.com/Home-Wrecker-Chronicles-ebook/dp/B00CKBWWIU/ref=la_B0088M542Q_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1369160172&sr=1-2 Over the weekend I read, ‟ 12 Long stem Roses ‟ by Bruce Goldwell. I wasn’t sure what to feel for awhile. I will now admit I skipped over a few scenes. Not because they were bad, mind you, but because they weren’t. His writing makes you feel like your in the room observing, like the proverbially ‘Fly on the wall.’ Since, this is an expression of events, and at time graphic, dealing with the love of his life I felt I was intruding on personal moments. Weird, I know, but he’s the one that did his job as a writer that well. ‟12 Long Stem Roses’ will if you have suffered from the pangs of real life will reinforce the fact that life does go on. His experiences show that we do heal for setbacks and many times it’s another person that gives us the strength to see the future from a better self-assured angle. Bruce Goldwell story will remind us that men have feelings too. Strong feeling that at times they don’t show due to fear of rejection. The story isn’t too long, so takes a few minutes from your day to read and rediscover the emotions you feel when you discovered what is was like to realize the real first time you loved someone. http://www.amazon.com/12-Long-Stem-Roses-ebook/dp/B00CVC5AA0/?tag=thirdrockhq A very interesting read. If you like to read snappy fast witted books, then I got one for you or rather Philip Whiteland does. I found I like these type of stories if done correctly and Mr. Whiteland proves he has the skill to pull it off. Jambalaya is a fast pace read to take you away from the humdrum day. You have to like to move from characters to narrator and back with ease to follow some of his great puns. I would have titled the book- The misadventures of Miss Celany Garden. But, no matter she gets her man in the end on the story. So if your into her heaving bosoms or his tight firm.... Ain’t no spoilers here. Whether you on the side of the North or South.. "Jambalaya” by Philip Whitehead just might be the quirky fun read you’ve been looking for. Purchase link...Check it out for a surprise. http://www.amazon.com/Jambalaya-ebook/dp/B0093JOMPI/ref=la_B004SBQSHG_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1368744724&sr=1-2 Philip is a 58 year old university lecturer in Human Resource Management. He doesn't tend to tell too many people about this as he is acutely aware of their eyes glazing over as he speaks. He has occasionally been accused of humour. "Steady Past Your Granny's" was Philip's first, self-published, collection of 'nostalgedy' stories. Closely followed by 'Crutches for Ducks' which continued the memoirs. Has just published his first foray into full-length humorous fiction, 'Jambalaya'. Wheezer And The Shy Coyote by Kitty Sutton This is the second book by Ms. Sutton I have read. For the second times she has managed to shared a story to keep our interest while educating us about a sad time in history. As the story opens we are introduced to a coyote that happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Soon, Ms. Sutton has us feeling in depth the confusion and sadness of loosing a life long mate. Sasa and Wheezer don’t realized they are being watched, or should I say Sasa doesn’t realize. And so, Ms. Sutton brings us up to date on the characters we met in her first book. If I came call it, ‘fictionalized truth,’ we are entertained by the story. Yet we are or should be ashamed of the greed some people went to make a dollar at the expense of other people’s happiness or even their lives. While men in responsible places in history turned their backs. Wheezer and The Shy Coyote is a love story, a suspenseful, educational and delightful tale, that should not be missed. Here's where you can get your own copy. http://www.amazon.com/Wheezer-Coyote-Mysteries-Trail-ebook/dp/B009J60WOU Lesson Learned... ‟Never judge a book by it’s cover or title. I saw this book as it did the rounds on the internet. My first impression was it’s about a childhood fable. WRONG. ‟Wheezer and the Painted Frog” by Kitty Sutton is for anyone with a heart. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the many people who’s lives were or are full of suffering and heartache. Kitty will do that, so gently you’ll flip through the pages one after another with true earnest to see what happens next. The story might be told from a young person’s prospective and Wheezer the dog might be the hero but any similarity to a child’s tale stops there. A Drama and Murder mystery set at the end of the dark Trail of Tears march. You will discover an emotional ride as she builds slowly to a story about loss of loved ones, the cruelty of greed, and the lengths people will go to accomplish and hide such facts. Kitty Sutton does this as we face our country’s own history during a dark time for those affected by it and those who ignored its happening. She weaves the historic elements to perfection. She made me wonder if her fictional parts were closer to the truth than recorded history. Not to be ignored there’s a touch of romance and a smidgen of justice for some. Reading ‟Wheezer and the Painted Frog” will be time well spent. Excuse me while I go read, ‟Wheezer and the Shy Coyote.” PS. I tried to come up with a different cover shot or title: funny nothing else works better than the way Ms. Sutton has done it. Here's the purchase links for both books. http://www.amazon.com/Wheezer-Painted-Mysteries-Trail-ebook/dp/B005N0PTT4 http://www.amazon.com/Wheezer-Coyote-Mysteries-Trail-ebook/dp/B009J60WOU Regency Romances are stories read for their fluff. To be enjoyed without causing the reader to mope over the tale for days. Their are to be read with the earnest desire to turn the page to see what awaits the reader. And, so I give you Heartless by Jaimey Grant. I am not sure what pulled at me to read this book, for years ago I grew bored with the format– duke/earl sees girl, gets girl, and the big lie destroys their happiness until the last chapter and everything is right in the world again. Ms. Grant gives us one better. You might be able to count on the happy-ever-after. However, that’s it. Heartless will make you want to turn those pages (or click the screen). You will meet the mean, Duke of Derringer. Duke Heartless himself (and fall in love). Our heroine Leandra make all women proud, as she takes her duke through the paces of life. Throw in the sub-plots, intrigue and the never ever ending relatives (oh come on, you have them, so I know you understand.) I don’t believe in spoilers so you’ll have to see for yourself. But, be warned DO NOT start to read Heartless at ten o’clock at night, unless you like to stay up and read all night. Thank you, Jaimey Grant for making regency romance fun to read again. Whether just off ‟the press” or released years ago when you get to read it; it doesn’t matter. I just had a chance to read Melissa Harlow’s 2009 release of: Stolen Property. She has a talent to make feel the emotional concerns of her characters real. She forces you to become one with them. In Stolen Property she has you dancing between her two leading characters. Your heart aches as the story opens with Mayree disclosing the pain of being bullied for not being built like a super model. You will want to hold Mayree’s hand, and help her through the pain of being real flesh and blood and it’s, OK not to be a size 6. Ms. Harlow quickly carries the plot forward and you’re now hating the rough, touch, and mean--Quinn. Knowing she’ll be turning the tables and have you rooting for him. If Mayree won’t say what Quinn needs to hear—you’ll shout it out for her. I will not be commenting on her intimate scenes. There’s no need to, any one who ever read anything by, Ms. Harlow knows she knows how to write them just fine.(maybe too fine.) So, if you like your heroine to be real woman and not a Barbie Doll. If you like your hero a real man with scars (inside and out)who makes mistakes, some time’s majors ones, then... Pick up or download your own copy of Stolen Property and enjoy. I know I did. http://www.amazon.com/STOLEN-PROPERTY-ABDUCTION-MAYREE-ebook/dp/B0038STZI4 Find more about Melissa Harlow http://www.melissaharlow.com/ I Just finished, Double Time on the Oregon Trail by Dixie Dawn Miller Goode. I like time travel and I like western themed stories. Double Time on the Oregon Trail surprised me. I didn't realize it was YA. Most likely because I didn't pay attention because the blurb for the book hooked me. The story held my interest all the way through to the end. (a good thing-right?) Go west, young lady, go west and two young girls did. Kenyon heads for Oregon with her family. Della heads for Oregon with her family. Della's adventures and trials so different from Kenyon's will make her grow up while still a young lady. Her contact with Kenyon may mean live or death for her and her family. Della's and her brother's future road into life will be forever changed by Kenyon. Kenyon's trials, like most dramatic teenagers, are mostly in her head. However, her exuberance as her eyes open, and she begins to embrace the journey, make you wish you where sitting next to her and experiencing the sights with her. Oh, did I mention the sojourn of each girl are over a 150 years apart. Take a few minutes and re-live those years when change was hard and being a young person harder. WELL DONE, Dixie. Here's where to find her book(s) so she can take you on the journey too. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008G3JZB8/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title If this is you: keep reading. The Staying Organized Survival Guide by Chloe Wilson Ha ha. This book is perfect for you. OK, OK. It’s perfect for me. If you breathe (those of us un-oganized) you wonder how to not just get-- but how to stay organized. For there is no doubt those who have mastered the art seem to flow a bit easier through life. Not sure if it’s just an illusion, but I sure am willing to find out. So when Chloe Wilson offered her book for free I would have jumped at the chance to read it. However, not being that organized I found the offer two days too late. And being the whiner I am I posted my dismay. Who says whining doesn’t get you things. Ms. Wilson saw it and kindly stepped up to the plate. The book doesn’t tell you anything you didn’t know about us disorganized ones. It did, however, tell you how to Start. Starting is was most of us dread. She not only tells us how to start but where and why. My first excuse was I don’t have a timer. Ha... not in her list of reason to put this off. Good payday not till next week. Phew, don’t need to rush into anything. Ah, motivation Ms. Wilson had done her job. An hour later I downloaded a timer from the internet (it’s so cute.) Oops, my double intent was also organize my time on internet. Doesn’t work unless you set it. Maybe, it needs to be my new screen. Anyway, today I did work on two pantry shelves. Results five wine bottles (empty-of course) in bag ready to go the a wine making friend. Five items moved to cabinet with the rest of the similar items. Discovered three boxes of snack cracker packs, snack bars and cookies that apparently hubby put there and I did know we had. These went into the basket on counter for such items. Time up! Stayed and straightened out snack basket. *** Accomplishments: Area cleaned, some items trashed, some items put in proper place, and just saved money not replacing the food I did not know we had. Need the motivation to get out your timers ticking. Then I suggest you get: "The Staying Organized Survival Guide" by Chloe Wilson for sale here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0077C4KOG Do check out her web site: http://getsetorganize.com/ Click here edit.
