A new cover reveal... There is something special as you watch the creative powers work from word one until the book comes to life. This doesn't happen for most people until they see the cover. Here is Charlene Raddon's new cover for Taming Jenna..... Isn't this one a beauty! THE WRONG MAN Deserted by her father at the tender age of seven, Jenna Leigh-Whittington had taught herself to ride, shoot, brawl…and steer clear of the opposite sex. But now, in a lonely Utah canyon, the Pinkerton agent has drawn her gun on a rugged stranger—only to discover that, far from the dangerous outlaw she’d been tracking, he is Branch McCauley, hired gun…and the most irresistible rascal ever to tempt and torment a woman! THE RIGHT WOMAN If there’s one thing McCauley trusts less than a female, it’s a female who packs a six-gun. But what a woman! Vowing to bring the sensuous hellcat to heel, McCauley has no inkling that their passionate battle of wills has just begun. Taming Jenna will be the most seductive—and satisfying—job he’s ever taken on. Ms. Charlene Radden can be proud of this one. Charlene Raddon began her fiction career in the third grade when she announced in Show & Tell that a baby sister she never had was killed by a black widow spider. She often penned stories featuring mistreated young girls whose mother accused of crimes her sister had actually committed. Her first serious attempt at writing fiction came in 1980. An early love of romance novels and the Wild West led her to choose the historical romance genre but she also writes contemporary romance. At present, she has five books published in paperback by Kensington Books (one under the pseudonym Rachel Summers), and four eBooks published by Tirgearr Publishing. Charlene’s awards include: RWA Golden Heart Finalist, Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award Nomination, Affair de Coeur Magazine Reader/Writer Poll for Best Historical of the Year. Her books have won or place in several contests. Currently, Charlene is working on her next release. To CELEBRATE SHE is holding a drawing for all viewers who visit and leave a comment with contact info. The prize will be a $30 amazon gift card, or B&N if they prefer. Please be sure this information is in the blog. I will also be awarding free copies to 3 randomly chosen participants. Venessa Kimbell presents SURACING the RAIN *book2 BLURB: The impending galactic event that will invade and evolve our world is upon us and our salvation lies in the hands of Jesca and her fellowship of Dobrian guardians. The sadistic Sondian fellowship’s inhumane corruption of our world is spreading like wildfire, redrawing lines between allies and enemies. Jesca’s fortitude is put to the test when she must make crucial decisions in battle and in love. She must choose between the predestined link that she shares with one man and the unresolved attraction she holds for another. Will Jesca have enough courage to surface the rim of this reality? *The Piercing the Fold series is intended for Mature Young Adult and Adult readers due to the paranormal and unorthodox scientific concepts addressed throughout. This series contains a rich mixture of the paranormal, science fiction, romance, adventure, and suspense. * In 2010, Venessa Kimball was struck by an idea, a story, that needed telling. Having always been passionate about the written word, Venessa embarked on writing what would become her debut novel, Piercing the Fold: Book 1; a mature young adult/ adult crossover, paranormal, science fiction series. July 2, 2012, Venessa Kimball independently published the first book in the Piercing the Fold series. Book 2, Surfacing the Rim, released March 14, 2013. In August of 2013, Venessa joined the publishing house, Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly. The Piercing the Fold series will be re-published with them beginning with Piercing the Fold: Book 1 on September 3, 2013. Surfacing the Rim: Book 2 will be re-published on September 24. 2013 and Ascending the Veil: Book 3 will be released for the first time on October 18, 2013. The final book in the series, Book 4 (Title TBD) will release in 2014. As for the future, Venessa is already filling her Work-In-Progress folder. Two of her future projects are contemporary fiction and will reflect her diversity as a writer in other genres. When Venessa is not writing, she is keeping active with her husband and three children, chauffeuring said children to extracurricular activities, participating in charitable 5k and 10k races(crazy...but she loves to run), catching a movie with her hubby, and staying up way too late reading. www.VenessaKimball.net http://www.facebook.com/venessakimballauthor http://www.twitter.com/venessakimball7 You'll want all three so stay tuned...And do tell everyone you meet today about Surfacing the Rain Oh dear... The writing team of Charles and Wendy Siefken are no exception. Do take a few minutes and see why their such a good team. So here goes.... For what are you grateful? We are both grateful for our health and our families. If you had two years left to live from this moment, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow? I think both of us would devote a lot more time to writing our stories. Right now, we are in the mode of, “there is always tomorrow”, two years we would push much harder. What is the number one lie you tell yourself? How is that working out? This question is pretty subjective. We think that if you tell yourself a lie long enough you will begin to believe it. Like if you tell yourself you will be alone for the rest of your life, you will begin to believe it. If you tell yourself every day that you will be happy and think positive thoughts, you can change how you see life. It can work out but it’s a retraining and reconditioning of the brain and how you think of yourself. When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive! For Charlie it was when he kept his car from going into a really steep ditch when he wrecked his car. For me it has to be when we went to Hawaii and I went swimming in the ocean and was comfortable. What is one of the most unusual things you have done in your life? For me, I was a mannequin in a store. It was a lot of fun. So far, the most unusual thing Charlie has done was go to a girl’s birthday party and play with the Barbie dolls. He was the only boy there. When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful? When a young man in a pickup rolled right in front of us we assisted in calling 911 and helping the EMTs get him out of the truck. Keeping him calm and covering him to keep him from freezing and going into shock. Yes, his mother was very grateful. Bio Charles Siefken (1992-present) is a recent graduate of high school. This is his first book of many to be published. He currently resides in rural central Iowa where he enjoys reading sci/fi books and playing video games among other things. He currently works at a local auto mechanics shop and will be attending college this fall to get a degree as well. Christopher Paolini was his inspiration to become a writer. Wendy Siefken (1966-Present)Currently working full time from home on writing stories and now a virtual assistant to those in need of an extra pair of hands online. Wendy lives on a farm with her family and enjoys reading, gardening and other activities with her family and friends. This is our first publication with many more to follow. This all started as a school project for her youngest son and business partner, Charles Siefken, which has grown into a desire to be published. The book is a journey into the fantasy realm of what if's. Zombies took over the world? What if werewolves were real? What if dragons were really not from earth but from another planet? I hope you enjoy this YA book. This book is ideal for a young reader who you may not want reading a book with a lot of blood and gore. This book doesn't have that. It has a story without all the graphics of a battle. I hope you enjoyed learning a bit about the Seifken's and their book Kai's Journey... watch for their newest release coming soon!. Sometimes you got to do it. When I heard Greta Burroughs was going to do a blog hop thing. I wanted to be included. So I begged. Here's the results.... Who is your favorite author, and how did they inspire you to write? I know this sounds biased but my favorite author is my husband, Robert DeBurgh. I went through the writing process with him as he worked on his manuscript and watched as it blossomed into a really great story. He was my inspiration to start writing myself and his constructive criticism has helped me to grow as a writer. When you write do you take notes, organize your characters and plot, or you write freely as you go? I am a seat of the pants writer. I map out the beginning of the story in my mind and have a general idea of some of the plot. Other than that, the book writes itself and sometimes surprises me. I’ll read over what I had just written and think, ‘Where did that come from?’ or ‘How am I going to get out of this mess?’ A lot of times the plot turns out very different than I originally planned. I like writing this way; to me, having notes and an outline restrict the imagination. I have to go with the flow. Where does your inspiration come from? I have no idea. I just let my imagination run and the characters write their own story. Do you write about your personal life experiences in your stories? Not in my fiction books, but my non-fiction is a memoir of my experiences with ITP. What is your favorite scene in your story? In Gerald and the Wee People, Gerald and his companions are inside a volcanic mountain that is about to blow up. Gerald is on a quest to confront the deranged forest god and all kinds of scary stuff happens to the boys. It was a lot of fun to write and to read. Are the characters in your story based on people you know? The characters in the Wee People series are named in memory of family members who have passed away but they do not share any characteristics. The characters’ personalities developed as the story was written. Is there any part in writing you don’t like? I get tired of reading the manuscript over and over and over…. Every time, I change a little something here or there and have to read it again to make sure it still flows. I proofread several times checking grammar, punctuation, and other errors then read for the story. It gets very old after a while. No matter where she is, there is always a book close at hand. Her love of reading began at an early age and blossomed over time to include many different genres, her favorite now being fantasy. As a preschool and elementary school teacher, Greta tried to instill the joy of reading in the children she worked with. Books were an important part of her classroom and story time was the highlight of the day. It has been a while since Greta was in a classroom but she had lots of experience in reading to children of various ages and remembers what they enjoyed listening to. She tries to incorporate that knowledge into her work as an author and believes it makes her a better writer of children's and young adult books. She now resides in SC with her husband, Robert and three dogs. Greta has six books published at the present time; three children’s books in the Patchwork Dog and Calico Cat series, two MG/YA fantasy entitled Gerald and the Wee People and House on Bo-Kay Lane, and a nonfiction account of her experiences with an autoimmune blood disorder called ITP - Heartaches and Miracles. For more information on Greta's books visit http://booksbygretaburroughs.weebly.com/ And check out my review of one of her enchanting books. http://lisaday.weebly.com/through-lisas-eyes.html In the Social Media world you know when you just 'click' with someone. Brenda Perlin is that kind of person. So, when I had an opportunity to be part of her blog hob to celebrate the re-release of her book - I jumped at it.... At what age were you the happiest? What triggered such joy? I would have to say the age I am now. Even though I have had so much to be happy about in the previous years and my life was oh so easier in many ways but now that I have found “real” love I wouldn’t want to go back. Also, what I am doing today is making me so happy. I love writing and meeting different writers. I think it is the first time I can really say that I am truly happy and content. What is the number one lie you tell yourself? How is that working out? I can’t even think of an answer for that. I think I have come pretty clean with how I am. I have admitted mistakes and there have been many. I try to be as real to myself as possible. Sometimes I can be hard on myself and those inner voices can be a bit rough but I don’t necessarily look at that as lying, just critical which I am definitely guilty of. Those negative thoughts do not help me in the least bit but I am trying to make peace within myself. It is an ongoing battle. When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive! I don’t want to make you all gag but I would have to say when I met my boyfriend. Something inside me just woke up. It was exhilarating and that feeling continues. When we met, we were both in unhappy marriages and just going through the motions. We had an instant connection and it was then when I felt like I woke up from a bad dream. When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful? Several years back I became computer pals with a guy named Abhijit from India. I met him from a Transverse Myelitis support group of which I got involved with after I was diagnosed in 2007. It is a rare auto-immune disease. From the start Abhijit and I became good friends. We wrote to each other almost every day and talked on Skype. I felt so bad for him because not only had he gone through such a debilitating disease but he was in India without much money or good health care. As bad as my problems were, his were far worse. I took him under my wing and he has always been appreciative. His gratitude is showed just by being my friend. What is the one thing, good or bad, you wish you could have said to a former boyfriend/girlfriend? Why didn’t you? Don’t worry he/she probably won’t read this. Gosh, that is hard to answer. I wish I could have reciprocated my feelings for a guy named Gerard (I named one of the characters in my book Home Wrecker after him) that I used to work with at a restaurant. He seemed like he was in love but I couldn’t return those feelings. Much of it was bad timing. Still, I wish I could tell him what a great guy he was and how good it made me feel to know how much he cared. What is the worst advice you have ever given someone? I will have to get back to you on that one. Who is your favorite author, and how did they inspire you to write? I feel repetitive always talking about Pat Conroy but he is the one!!! His words are like poetry and music to my ears. He just has a rare gift. I love that he writes with such honesty and feeling. His writing really moves me like no other. Author bio I live in Orange County, California. I have spent most of my working life in the physical fitness arena. I love the gratification that comes with helping people achieve their fitness goals and I love the fulfillment that comes with having a healthy body. I moved from the Los Angeles area where I was raised to Orange County in the Spring of 2005. During that time I was a housewife with a couple of dogs. Now I am not. Instead I am writing my adventures for all to read. Some days a just days you seem to have to be sappy. For me, this is one of those days. I rather not say why. However, I think more people refuse to admit they have sappy days, than those who will fess up to them. I just read this: in a Huffington Post* post. Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. He said, "Too many people die with their music still in them." I pondered why that statement is true. Is it because we think no one will like, Our sounds? Our opinions? Our words? Which made me wonder. What kind of music is the most poplar? If you made that kind of music it would reason more people would like it, hence like you, right? Since, there are so many different kinds of ways to express ourselves what’s the problem? The answer: rejection? Maybe. Maybe not. One dictionary describes the word– Stifle: >check or repress something: to curb, repress, or prevent the development of something < This is something that can be done to us. Or something we can do to ourselves. Here’s an example: For me, this is one of those days. I really wanted to write this sentence this way: This day for me is one of those days. Why because being dyslectic that’s how my brain says to do it. But, if I did that I would be barraged by the grammar gurus. And that would be interrupted by me as rejection. No one likes or wants to feel rejected. Which leaves only two choices. We can never put ourselves out there to be rejected. The other is the stifle ourselves to conform, so not to suffer the anguish of rejection. If we do that, then I ask you. Whose music, opinions or words are you using: Cause, Honey, they ain’t yours. "Too many people die with their music still in them." @ Pass the tissues, please. Lisa Day @ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paula-davislaack/stress-tips_b_3416306.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular Welcome...June 15 is Goodread’s All Author Blog Blitz which means blogs everywhere are sharing guest writers on their blog. Please welcome my guest blogger Kathryne Stelher.. A brand new writer.Hello, My name is Kathryn Stelher. I live in the Seattle area, and I find it a perfect place to write. I have always been a fan of romance novels. I have read many, and have wanted to try my hand at writing for a long time. I feel it's time for me to move forward with my thoughts and aspirations, and get involved in the popular genre of romance novels. I am currently writing my first novel "Time Doesn't Wait". My hopes are to have it ready for editing by the end of the year. It is an absolute joy to write with a romance theme, being that I have always enjoyed the likes of Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, and Mary Jo Putney for years. I have learned a lot from my reading about styles, and the way characters are brought into the story. Each character in the story should have their own identity and personality of course, but they should also connect to the reader in their own way. I hope to create my own writing style, which I hope is unique and different. Writing is fun for me, but I have learned that it takes determination, hard work, and the will to push your ideas and thoughts forward to entertain the readers who sit down to read your work. The end result should be an entertaining, effortless, and fun read! “Time Doesn’t Wait” Synopsis: ‘Rebecca, once happy in her marriage finds herself questioning her husband and their marriage and asks him the direct question about his true feelings for her. Their conversation and the things said lead to a downward spiral in their relationship, and leaves her feeling betrayed and all alone. As she picks up the pieces, she meets a to-good-to-be-true man—a handsome man who seems to understand her in every way. They become closer and more involved when an unforeseen twist threatens to throw her back into the downward emotional spiral she had worked so hard to get out of. Now she must make tough decisions. Will the decisions Rebecca makes be in her best interest, or will she give in to her kind heart and do what’s best for others around her?’ I think a lot of women will be able to relate to the things that Rebecca goes through and how emotional and draining love can be. I plan to have TDW out before the holidays and will decide on a book cover within the next month. I want to thank Lisa for letting me post a little about my writing and my book. OK, while withering in pain at the E.R. I subtly mentioned I am a writer to the nurse. Of course, I mentioned my new WIP a story located on the Santa Fe Trail in 1859. By then the pain meds were doing their job. Well, knock me down and roll me over...guess where Nurse Diane has been. Since the lucky girl had been there in person and me only through the magic of the Internet my jealously was obvious. That was until she mentioned Pictures. ‟PICTURES,” I said. Sweet Nurse Diane has shared a few of hers and I added a few I found on line you’ll see the beauty of hers instantly so ...ENJOY. Notice the Pink colored rock. I didn’t like any of them and of course, I said so. I thought, I did it nicely, but then again- maybe not (that the author’s opinion) isn’t it. However, I was trying to be honest. I guess that’s one of the points I am trying to make. Whose opinion matters most when you title your book? What is your title supposed to do for your work? In my opinion the title should make the reader seek more information, or give an indication of what to expect when they flutter through the pages of your novel. And that’s why some authors have been known to be traumatized when it comes to choosing the ‟Perfect Title.” I have it on great authority of the gazillion books Amazon alone offered the world 145,324* are on hold waiting for the bestest title. My own experience with titles. I named the piece. I saw it in my head that way. The whole time I worked on it the title stuck. The story was wrapped and weaved around the title. Why, I even listed it that way in my word processor. So, that should tell you something. Right? However, when I began to share it and talk about it in the last stages I kept calling it something else. Now, my presumed title that I worked with for a year and a half was replaced. Here some Great title ideas.. see if you can tell what the story would be about. How to Murder a Pig. 1. How to butcher a hog. 2. Cookbook for pork. 3. How to kill off your slob of a spouse.(BBQ sauce recipe included.) The Coo-coo next Door. 1. Your neighbor the crazy guy. 2. The extinct bird farm across the street. 3. Why Mr. Rogers shot Grannie’s irritating clock.(not for children) Soda: the good and bad 1. Helpful hints on using soda for health. 2. How to remove paint. 3. Cheat your way to win the county belching contest and win first prize. (A Tape-deck player from 1970) *no real statistics were harmed and if they were so what. OH in case you're curious you can go here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A31PMO0 or here https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/303570 Then, you can tell me if I should have kept the title ..Ghostwoman. Lisa Day I can do it. I wanted to do it. It was fun to do it, so when did it become not fun.
What am I ranting about? Writing. I think this is why it’s no longer enjoyable. What do you think? Some where along the line this became work. No, not the writing. The marketing. Of course the people call it progression. Anybody can write a book. But, now the anybody has to promote the works. What’s so hard about telling, asking, and emailing everyone the message 'Buy My Book'. If you believe something bad enough you can easily lower yourself to beg. Hey, it’s a plan*. Then you discover there are rules. Social Sales Requests must be disguised when using Social Media as a corridor to get the word out. So you blog, you Twitter, you Facebook, and you list yourself. You put your book on every single list you stumble upon or you see some list a follow writer may be on. However, the experts tell me never ever directly say or ask- Buy My Book. By the time you finish being little miss sunshine everywhere the day is gone. Some days you don’t even get to open the word processor to look at what you wrote the last time you were able to write. When you no longer have the time to devote to the things that you enjoyed for hours at a time, after a while you stop. Today’s life is so full of distractions. Don’t believe it? Ask a Soccer Mom. How many activities did she belonged to as a child and how many activities does her children take part in today? And it makes me wonder if this is just one big distraction. It seems like every body wants a piece of you. The Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and such. The groups and the blogs go on forever. Some blogs have thousands of hits (visits) a week. People are yelling sell, sell this, sell that. Buy, buy, buy. Make money or just waste your time trying. Trying to get enough money to pay the rent. You did not buy into the money making $5000 in a week dream, but a few dollars would have been nice. And there you are, you just wanted to write a story. A story, maybe somebody would enjoy reading. But, you can’t say–Buy My Book. And you can not write another one, because you're too busy trying to figure out how not to say–buy my book. Oh, by the way.. Just In Case.. you can buy my books here: AMAZON http://www.amazon.com/Lisa-Day/e/B005W6EXGY/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_pop_1 SMASHWORDS https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/lisaday12 I do believe you were warned about my plan. * So, who reads footnotes any way. That's an idea for another day. Best wishes, Lisa Cassie felt like a rag doll when he released his hold. She slid from the horse and slumped to the ground. He half dragged and half carried her inside his lodge. Without a word, Wolfkeeper pushed her on to a pallet made of furs and blankets. He moved to the other side of the lodge. When he turned back to her, he squatted and placed a gourd serving as a cup filled with water to her lips. ‟Drink,” was all he said. Cassie drank greedily. When it was empty, she asked for more. He ignored her request and pushed her forcing her to lie against the furs. With all her energy spent when she was separated from Timothy, all she could do was lay there. Wolfkeeper exited through the opening and left her alone. Too drained to do anything else, Cassie fell asleep almost instantly. *** Cassie struggled through the nightmares of the past couple of days as they filled her dreams. Wolfkeeper’s return to the lodge went unnoticed. He watched her thrash about while captive in her nightmare. It surprised him to find the desire to comfort her crossing his mind. Wolfkeeper found himself inching towards her, but stopped short and returned to his seat. He knew the night tremors she fought were nothing compared to the heart-rending choices that lay ahead of her. He gave no thought as to why he had the unprecedented impulse to keep offering comfort to one who he thought of only as an enemy. Wolfkeeper despised white people. He hardly ever went raiding anymore, because it took him too close to them. When younger, he had no qualms about raiding. But even then it was not like some of the young ones now. He had his fill of being bloodthirsty. The scalps that hung in his lodge were from his early years. He had lost friends and relatives in battle. A couple of years ago, he had come to appreciate the importance of life, especially the beauty of a peaceful one. Now, he usually remained close to home and let the younger men build their own reputations. He wasn’t sure why he had agreed to this last trip. Looking at the woman across from him, enemy or not, Wolfkeeper decided this was his last raid. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A31PMO0 *** I get to be Queen For A Day as I talk about The Next Big Thing. I’ve been tagged by fellow author Traci Hohenstein who writes terrific women’s fiction. I’m supposed to tell you about my next book by answering the following questions, and then I have tagged five other authors who will tell you about their Next Big Thing. Let’s get started! What is the working title of your next book? Wolfkeeper’s Woman Where did the idea come from for the book? Years ago when I read the ‘bodice rippers’ paperbacks I moved from the European Victorian era to North American Historical and still love reading them. What genre does your book fall under? I think those in the know would say more fiction than romance. But, it is a love story. A love story about sacrifice. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? Twenty years ago I could tell you. Today with the new actors you sent me to the Google search and after looking at the latest hot hunk actors, all day...What was the question? What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Cassie and her son after taken captive must learn to except life sometimes forces unforeseen heart rendering choices on us all. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? This one is self-published. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? To complete the first draft and a rough one at that about five months. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Books by Madeline Baker and Catherine Anderson... to insult a few excellent authors. Who or What inspired you to write this book? Being out of work and having reread all the books in the house. I had no choice but to entertain myself. I am not a big fan of daytime TV soaps. I a little something and then wrote some more. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? Wolfkeeper’s Woman doesn’t follow the rules of the romance genre. The hero and heroine do not fall instantly in love. Once Wolfkeeper discovers his feelings for Cassie, the woman whose husband he killed and the child he gave away he knows he has to heal her heart before he can even think of claiming it. Here are some more lovely authors I’ve tagged to tell you about what they’re working on. Look for their posts and consider trying…their Next Big Thing! CASSIE: A woman alone with her husband dead and son abducted. She stood before the one she hated. Her only goal …the child must live... Cassie soon discovered she had two battles to fight. She needed to protect herself from him.. He had total control over her life. Now he was demanding her surrender to him. She also needed to save her son. She would do whatever it took to protect him.
